There are so many classes out there, it can be hard to decipher between what is what, and what will get you results. At Encompass Fitness, we incorporate a number of training methods and styles to drive the best results, performance, and train the body to adapt to varying circumstances. We strongly believe that functional fitness is the premise of a long and healthy life full of the ability to do the things that drive you, regardless of your age, gender, or athletic goals and capacities. For this reason, there is no one best training "class" or "style", but a combination of training techniques, equipment, and programming to get clients the goals they are looking for.
To incorporate the different training methods we use, we have derived our own class: SWAT.
SWAT: Strength, Weights, Agility, Toning
Don’t let the name scare you. SWAT classes are designed for all skill levels. We give options and adaptations for all movements; scaling from beginner to advanced levels of strength, fitness, and endurance. SWAT stands for Strength, Weights, Agility, and Toning and includes elements of strength training, body weight exercises, cardio, agility/plyometrics, teamwork, competition and fun in every class. SWAT classes are led by qualified coaches in a comfortable and encouraging environment. We coach to ensure each member learns and builds upon the proper fitness fundamentals to achieve their goals, and encourage a long-time healthy lifestyle.
To achieve this, we incorporate a variety of class formats from circuit to tabata, EMOM to AMRAP, and incorporate everything from solely strength or cardio, to a combination of them both. Our methods of madness vary to keep you from getting bored, and our equipment varies to challenge you muscularly and mentally. We use it all, from TRX, Dumbbells, Kettlebells, Battleropes, Slam Balls, Sleds, Barbells, and simply your own body weight. We teach you to become as efficient as you can and to use your functional capacity to accomplish whatever situation you are faced with. Ultimately, we believe that when you discover your potential within fitness, you discover your potential in the world.
But don't worry, we still offer some of your other favourites!
Kettlebell:
Kettlebell training provides a low-impact, total body workout by torching fat and training functional movement patterns. Think better power, increased core stability, strength, and improved posture that translates into everything you do. Kettlebell classes are suitable for all levels, from beginner to advanced.
Our kettlebell classes are a full 55 minutes devoted solely to kettlebell technique, movements, and exercises to become stronger, exert more power, and train your posterior chain (aka - build a backside). Plus, in terms of safety, kettlebells put less compression but more lateral force on your vertebrae compared to conventional barbells, according to research by the University of Waterloo’s Stuart McGill. (Translation: they work).
Power Stretch:
Get more out of your workouts with Power Stretch; a pilates, and yoga based class. Get intentional with your stretching by focusing on restoration of muscles, tendons, and joints to improve overall performance. This class encourages a balance of strength and flexibility and incorporates myofascial release using foam rollers, golf balls, and lacrosse balls.
Yin Yoga:
Focus on flexibility and relaxation with this restorative yoga class. This class works deep into the connective tissues surrounding all the joints of the body; with a special focus on the hips, shoulders, and spine. Along with increased flexibility, students will also see the benefit of enhanced concentration, breath awareness, balance and coordination. This class is a great compliment to all types of athletic training and is suitable for all-levels!
Functional Fitness:
While our SWAT classes incorporate a variety of techniques and movements, our functional fitness class focuses on moving exactly the way our body was intended to. From the time of cavemen, we were meant to MOVE! And not just sitting in an exercise machine, but up-and-down, back-and-forth, side-to-side; pushing, pulling, squatting, and hinging. Functional fitness focuses on training these movement patterns, whether it's pushing a sled, climbing a rope, or doing a bear walk, this class involves mimicking important movements. From being able to pick up a child from a crib, to shovelling snow in a blizzard, or spelunking in caves, you'll find yourself able to navigate through life and mother nature much easier.
Whether you're starting a fitness program for the first time, training for an athletic event, or simply just wanting to look and feel better, we've got the tools to help you achieve your goals; in a motivating, supportive environment.
