We love a good #TransformationTueday, but our favourite transformations are always the ones that take place on the inside. Changing your body can be challenging, but changing the way you think, see yourself, and value yourself is real, hard, and life-changing work.
Wherever you are on your journey, we think that Tarryn’s insights will inspire you to continue to keep working at it, and the importance of changing your inside as you change on the outside.
We recently asked Tarryn to share a few of the lessons she’s learned since joining us at Encompass.
Oh boy… where do I even begin? There are so many, but here are a few:
- Just because I ate a couple treat meals doesn’t mean my whole week is ruined and it doesnt give me a reason to continue to eat bad food. (Just because you hit the ditch doesn't mean you stay in the ditch! As Coach Kim would say)
- Your bad habits will come back to bite you in the butt. But, if you keep track of what you’re eating and how you’re feeling you'll be able to push those bad habits away faster the next time you see them creeping up on you.
- A sleep schedule is more important than I thought it was. It's easier to stay on track with the rest of the day and the meals for that day if you're waking up at the same time everyday and early enough to get something in your belly. This will also prevent me from running to Tim's on my break which will then mess up what I get for lunch.
- Waking up early actually ended up giving me less stress because I had that time in the morning to actually figure out what I was doing and not just auto piloting my way through getting ready and rushing to work.
- If I'm getting headaches it's usually linked to how much caffeine I've had in the last couple days. Listen to your body because it's going to tell you when you're messing with it!
- The scale is rude and I hate it. Stop weighing yourself everyday because you're only sabotaging yourself. Focus on how your clothes fit and feel and what your measurements are doing instead of running to the scale.
- You can still have "treat" foods! You can totally make nachos work.
- They are not “cheat meals” - they are treat meals and SOMETIMES you have to treat your damn self :)
- Even when you're not feeling it make sure you get your butt to your workout at least 3 times a week. You wont regret it when you get yourself there, but you will regret not going after you know the class is already over and you've just sat there letting yourself feel blah.
- Food prepping is your friend. Set aside 1 or 2 days per week to make your meals and then your not as tempted to eat out because "you don't feel like cooking"
- My attitude is apparently based around the quality of food I've been eating. Eat too much Mcdonalds and I turn into a rage monster on the inside. Load up on my healthy foods and barely anything will make me mad.
- If you stop working out your head will think sad thoughts. After I start working out again I feel better about my body even if the scale and measurements haven’t changed.
It would be nice to be thin, don’t get me wrong but when I'm working out and pushing myself it makes those bad thoughts about myself disappear because at least I know that I'm not just a blob inside.
Like “yeah I have some thick thighs but they've got some power to them! That's gotta count for something:)”
